Invented in the 19th century by Admiral FitzRoy, the famous sailor and meteorologist, this amazing and mysterious liquid and crystal filled storm glass device is used for predicting the weather up to 2 days in advance. You'll see changes in the crystal formations if it will be fair weather (clear liquid), rainy weather (murky liquid), thunderstorms (crystals at the top), cloudy skies with snow (large flaky crystals) and even windy weather (threads of crystals). A wonderfully simple antique reproduction with an elegant wooden base. Measures 17cm tall.
This thermometer is based on a scientific principal discovered by Galileo. As the liquids in the cylinder contract at higher temperatures, the spheres of slightly different weights rise; as the liquids cool, the spheres drop. The lowest floating sphere in the upper part of the cylinder tells the correct temperature. Fahrenheit on one side of the hanging plaques, centigrade on the reverse. Made of glass, it's an attractive and fascinating way to measure the temperature of your home. Measures 43cm tall x 8cm in diameter.
This classic weather station is a work of art, perfect to display in any room. The elegant wood case holds a glass Galileo thermometer with colourful liquid-filled glass globes that rise and fall within a liquid tube, a hygrometer to gauge barometric pressure and humidity, a glass Fitzroy weather predictor with crystals that change with weather patterns and an analog clock. The clock and hygrometer instruments are set in goldtone frames. The wood case is made from pine and finished with a high gloss rosewood stain. 18cm high x 11cm wide. Includes 1 LR44 button cell battery.
Our colourful glass thermometer is based on Galileo's theory: in liquid, a body of fixed mass becomes less buoyant as the liquid temperature rises, and more buoyant as the temperature decreases—due to changes in liquid density. As the temperature changes, the multicoloured balls rise and fall within the liquid-filled thermostatic tube. The lowest sphere in the top group within the instrument indicates ambient temperature. Made of glass, measures 23cm tall with five temperature indicators.
